Beautiful Oeil-de-Boeuf wall clock.
8-sided (octagonal) rosewood veneered wooden case with intarsia.
Movement with cord regulation and striking mechanism striking on whole and half hours on a beautiful sounding bell.
The back plate is signed with: "Medaille d`Or Pons, 1827 PB&F"

The dial has been kept old, the dial can be supplied resilverd.

Dimensions; horizontal approx. 42 cm, height with sphere and ring 53 cm.

Born in Grenoble, Honoré PONS came to Paris as a clock maker. The prefect of Seine-Inférieure decided to send him to St. Nicolas d'Aliermont, where clocks had been made by hand for more than a century. Pons settled there in 1807. He reorganized the division of labor with machines he invented, the various models of which were deposited in 1806 at the 'Conservatoire des Arts en Métiers' in Paris. He was the inventor of all kinds of mechanisms and systems for clocks.
He delivered 100 gears a week to Paris, where he had two offices.
He exhibited in Rouen in 1809. Received a Médaille d'Argent in 1819 and 1823. Received a Médaille d'Or in 1827, 1839 and 1844. His collaborators were Mathieu Croute and Paul Rosetti. The family business Couaillet used Pons gears to make clocks. assembling from 1913 to 1939.
