Beautiful and rare French Grandfather Empire Regulator Regulateur de Parquet
Beautifully built clockwork (no striking mechanism) with pin escapement, with weight on a belt drive and pulley, the clock runs for approx. 2 months.
The pendulum is exceptionally heavy (16 kg) and has a temperature compensation, a so-called Gridiron pendulum.
The oak case is veneered with mahogany and beautifully polished.
The silver-plated dial, in very good condition, is signed "Ceret à Nantes." This clockmaker is listed in "Dictionnaire des Hologers Francais by Tardy". He also worked with Dufour from ca 1770.
Large central second hand and beautiful Brequet hands.
The sleek gold-plated lunette gives the whole has an almost modern look.

The gridiron pendulum was a temperature-compensated clock pendulum invented by British clockmaker John Harrison around 1726 and later modified by John Ellicott. It was used in precision clocks. In ordinary clock pendulums, the pendulum rod expands and contracts with changes in temperature.
