With date and Moonphase
Beautiful English Bracket clock with date and moon phase.
Case is veneered with mahogany veneer and softly polished.
Bronze dial with silvered number ring, moon phase and date indication.
Beautiful and solid movement with double fusee with string drive and anchor escapement. Repeat function of the striking mechanism by pulling on a cord, side of the clock.
Back of the movement is beautifully and refined engraved.
It strikes the number of hours on the hour and once on the half hour on a clear sounding bell.
This is a clock from a transitional period, a typical (18th century) early case with a "modern" anchor escapement that was known to run better and more accurately than the previously widely used Verge escapement.
So there is no question of a later conversion.
Dating late 18th century.
Dimensions are high 52 cm (with handle on) x wide 27 cm x deep 18 cm.
